The first Ironman 70.3 powered by VNG – brought together the Ironman Foundation, Sunrise Events, world professional triathletes and a small but growing Vietnamese triathlon community. Inspired by a visit to the neonatal unit at Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children, we witnessed the true power of sport, a donation of two state of the art incubators from the Ironman Foundation, Sunrise Events. These lifesaving gifts were known as the iron incubators.
As Caroline Steffen winner of the women’s race stepped up to receive her trophy, she was overcome with emotion as she donated her prize winnings to Newborns Vietnam. To overwhelming applause and more than a few tears, history was made with VNG, partnering with Newborns to change the life chances of thousands of babies, the mantle to make a difference is now vested in their Dream Maker Foundation.
Ten years ago some amazing individuals set a pathway to a finish line where in time there will be no preventable newborn deaths in Vietnam.
