Neither torrential rain nor gloomy skies could dampen the spirit of celebration in Hue. This week, we marked a historic step in newborn healthcare with the presentation at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the very first Vietnamese edition of the European Resuscitation Council’s (ERC) Newborn Life Support (NLS) manual. British Consul General Alex Smith made the presentation, highlighting the dedication of the UK and Vietnamese medical community to improve newborn outcomes through world-class training.
The university’s Rector emphasized the significance of correct newborn resuscitation, with the official NLS manual serving as a critical tool in our effort to reduce newborn mortality. The Consul General congratulated the university on its achievements, extending her gratitude to the UK instructors, sponsors, and supporters who have brought this program to life. She took pride in the NLS scholarship scheme, launched at the British Consulate, which continues to enable candidates from across Vietnam to access this essential training.
As each candidate received their NLS manual and scholarship certificate, their pride and determination were evident. Despite the rain, the event shone with the commitment of teachers, students, and sponsors—all united in the mission to give more newborns a chance not only to survive but to thrive.
