Dr Julian Eason:
As I look back on my journey over the past six years, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. Serving as a volunteer course leader for the neonatal postgraduate training programme in Hanoi has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career.
From the very first day, I was welcomed with open arms by the hospitals I have taught at. The enthusiasm and dedication of the doctors has been truly inspiring. Their eagerness to learn and commitment to improving neonatal care in Vietnam have driven me to give my very best. Throughout these years, we have tackled challenging cases, celebrated successes, and learnt from our setbacks. The doctors have brought their own unique perspectives and ideas, enriching the learning experience for everyone involved. I got to know their families too, and what the training meant to them, as I experienced first-hand Vietnamese hospitality. My personal knowledge and understanding have also been enriched. Having travelled and taught overseas before in a variety of countries with differing environments, this has enabled me to gain more than I thought possible.
The bonds I have formed with my co course leader Dr David Schapira and fellow UK volunteer neonatal consultants and the trainees has transcended the classroom. Together, we have created a community dedicated to advancing neonatal care embodied with a spirit of lifelong learning.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. Here’s to many more years of learning, growth, and making a difference in neonatal care. The memories and lessons from this experience will stay with me forever.
